The Causes of Wildfires
Wildfires are a natural disaster that is caused by the ignition of combustible material. Fires can be started by natural causes such as lightning, or human activities such as arson or campfires. There are three major types of wildfires: ground fires, surface fires and crown fires. Ground fires are started when trees or other plants burn and their roots fall to the earth, often due to drought conditions. Surface fires occur when trees and plants close to the ground ignite from an external source, like a match or cigarette butt. Crown fires occur on treetops that have been dried out from a lack of rain for extended periods of time.
